Prehospital Management of Sepsis – Advanced

The Advanced Prehospital Management of Sepsis course is an intensive 1.5-hour online training program designed to equip emergency medical technicians (EMTs) with the knowledge and skills needed to manage sepsis in prehospital settings. Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening medical condition that occurs when the body's immune response to an infection becomes overactive and starts to damage the body's tissues and organs. Early recognition and prompt treatment of sepsis are critical for improving patient outcomes, particularly in prehospital settings where access to advanced medical care is limited.

During this course, participants will learn about the latest evidence-based practices for identifying and treating sepsis in prehospital settings. The course will cover the risk factors and pathophysiology of sepsis, including the various types of infections that can lead to sepsis. Participants will learn how to recognize the early warning signs of sepsis, such as fever, chills, rapid heartbeat, and altered mental status. They will also learn how to perform a rapid assessment of sepsis risk factors, including the use of tools such as the qSOFA score, to quickly identify patients who may be at risk of developing sepsis.

The course will focus on providing practical strategies and interventions for managing sepsis in prehospital settings. Participants will learn about the use of advanced technologies, such as point-of-care testing and remote monitoring, to support sepsis diagnosis and treatment. They will also learn about the latest medications and treatment protocols for sepsis, including fluid resuscitation, antibiotics, and vasopressors.
